Hoteliers ask for incentives

Hoteliers ask for incentives to upgrade their product and their hotel units in order to be competitive.

According to Chairwoman of the municipal committee of Paphos PASYXE, Evelina Komodromou, there has been a decrease of the Russian market but also an increase of the British, which however cannot fill the gap. She noted, however, that it is a positive step for the next years.

“We must build a market in Central Europe that has a future for Cyprus while the difference of the sterling against the euro has helped Cyprus in this case”, she stressed.

She estimated that the future of tourism in Cyprus depends on the global level, the problems observed in each municipality separately, but also on the great risk posed by the Greek problem and the volatility in the financial sector.

She also expressed her concern about Greece and its possible return to the drachma.

Unfortunately our product, she noted, is not sufficiently competitive with regard to other countries, but it will create greater competition because we will not be able to move in the same markets together with Greece.

Ms. Komodromou said Greece will offer a more affordable package and this will have a direct cost to our country's tourism.

She added that it is necessary to motivate hoteliers to upgrade their product and to proceed with the upgrade of their hotel units in order to be competitive.

We should see in all sectors how to offer quality services but also a quality product, she concluded.
