Record tourist arrivals continue

Tourist arrivals rose for the third consecutive month in September, marking the best ever result for this month.

According to data released today by the Statistical Service, tourist arrivals in September 2015 stood at 360.899 compared to 316.602 in September 2014, recording an increase of 14%. This is the largest number of arrivals for this month based on available data.

In August, tourist arrivals also reached a record high.

Figures on arrivals are boosting expectations that the tourist industry is going to support the economic recovery. July data on tourist income showed an increase, partly closing the negative gap of the first six months of 2015.

Arrivals from the United Kingdom increased by 32% in September 2015 as they reached 145.166 from 109.951 in September 2014.

An increase of 100%, was recorded in arrivals from Israel (from 7.383 to 14.756) while tourist arrivals from Germany stood at 12.840 from 9.534 last year posting an increase of 34.7%.

Arrivals from Greece recorded an increase of 27.9% reaching 12.001 this year from 9.382 last year.

On the other hand a decrease of 17,0% was recorded in tourist arrivals from Russia which fell to 75.391 in September 2015 compared to 90.866 in September 2014.

Arrivals from Sweden also declined by 5,9% falling to 15.951 compared to 16.947 last year.

For the period January – September 2015 arrivals of tourists totaled 2.203.599 compared to 2.051.483 in the corresponding period of 2014, recording an increase of 7,4%.
