Tour operators: "Cyprus within the dangerous zone"

Two international tour operators have classified Cyprus as a dangerous tourist destination (together with Turkey, Jordan and other Arabian countries), allowing their customers to cancel their reservations without any extra charges, said the Commerce Minister, Giorgos Lillikas before the House Commerce Committee.

The Minister said that the government is already in contact with the said tour operators to delist Cyprus from the specific list and be actively involved in the attraction of tourists in the face of summer.

Mr. Lillikas also informed the Commerce Committee about the government's measures to strengthen tourism and support the island's economy following the Iraqi war that provide for; promotion abroad, attraction of Greek tourists, suspension of passengers' due, development of domestic tourism promoting measures so that Cypriots pay the same as foreigners when staying in Cyprus hotels, attraction of student tourism from Greece and liberalization of charter flights from Greece and Israel.
