Tourism income continues strong

Revenue from tourism recorded a large increase in November 2015, providing further support to efforts for the recovery of the economy.

On the basis of the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism reached €81,9 mn in November 2015 compared to €65mn in the corresponding month of the previous year. This corresponds to an increase of 26,0%.

In October, tourism revenue increased by 3.6%.

The increase recorded is attributed to the increase in arrivals, as per capita expenditure fell in November 2015.

Tourist arrivals reached 108.1 thousand in November 2015 compared to 81.4 thousand in November 2014, recording an increase of 32.7%.

Per capita expenditure decreased by 5.2% as it fell to € 757,45 in November 2015 from € 798,61 in November 2014.

The highest per capita expenditure was recorded by tourists from Switzerland (€ 937.13) and the United Kingdom (€ 934,98).

The average length of stay in Cyprus also decreased, as it stood at 10.3 days in November 2015 from 11.9 days in November 2014.

For the period January – November 2015 revenue from tourism is estimated at €2.059,5 mn compared to €1.979,8 mn in the corresponding period of 2014, recording an increase of 4,0%.
