17/11/2003 11:33
According to CYSTAT data released on Monday, tourist arrivals for October have recorded a drop of 2.7% or 7,383 to 268,457.

The increase in British and Greek tourist arrivals by 5.3% and 29% respectively managed to offset the significant losses resulting from the markets of Germany (-10%), Switzerland (-34%) and Russian (-27%).

For January-October, tourist arrivals have recorded a drop of 6.1% to 2,092,004 compared to 2,229,088 in the corresponding period of 2002, while British tourist arrivals reached 1,23 million or 59% of total arrivals, similar to those recorded in 2002.

These figures seem to be in line with the Finance Ministry’s estimates, according to which the drop in tourist arrivals for the full year will reach 5%. The Finance Ministry also anticipates that tourist revenues will drop 10%. It is noted that for January-September 2003, revenues have showed a decline of 10.5%.
