Tourist arrivals hit record high in September

Tourist arrivals in Cyprus recorded a historic high in September 2018 and in the first nine months of the year, figures released on Wednesday by the Statistical Service show.
 
Cystat reported that arrivals of tourists reached 520.138 in September 2018 compared with 483.716 in September 2017, recording an increase of 7,5%. “September 2018 had the highest volume of tourist arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the specific month”, Cystat noted.
 
“For the period of January – September 2018 arrivals of tourists totalled 3.239.760 compared to 3.001.603 in the corresponding period of 2017, recording an increase of 7,9% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first nine months of the year”, it added.
 
The Statistical Service reported that tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom were up by 5,3% in September 2018 compared with September 2017, whereas an increase of 1,7% was recorded in tourist arrivals from Israel. Tourist arrivals from Germany and Greece also increased by 3,0% and 4,0% respectively. Tourist arrivals from Russia decreased by 4,1% and from Sweden by 4,9%.
 
The United Kingdom accounted for 33,5% of tourist arrivals in September while Russia accounted for 22,4% of total arrivals, Israel for 6,2% and Germany for 4,3%.
 
A percentage of 88,1% of tourists came to Cyprus in September on holiday, 8,2% visited friends and relatives and 3,7% were on a business trip.
