Revenue from tourism declined in the first month of 2015.
According to the Statistical Service, revenues from tourism fell by 7.5% to €28,4 mn in January, compared to €30,7 mn in the corresponding month last year.
In 2014 tourist revenues fell by2.8% after four years of continuous growth. In December, an increase of 16.6% was recorded.
The fall in January occurred due to the reduction in per capita expenditure of tourists since tourist arrivals rose by 2.8% in January.
Tourist arrivals reached 41.8 thousands in the first month of 2015 from 40.7 thousands in January 2014.
Per capita expenditure decreased by 10.1% to €679,2 in January 2015 from €755,7 in January 2014.
The highest per capita expenditure was recorded by tourists from Lebanon (€924,5), Russia (€884,4), the British (€809,7) and tourists from France (€806,2).
