ETYK major shareholder in BOCY

ETYK claims the appointment of a temporary Board of Directors in Bank of Cyprus without further delay, in a letter sent to the President of the Republic, Nicos Anastasiades and the CB Governor, Panicos Demetriades, indicating at the same time that the organization has become the major shareholder of BOCY.

In its letter, the trade union of the bank employees emphasizes that "the organization's leadership is deeply concerned about the course of the banking system of Cyprus and especially the Bank of Cyprus which, according to our information, is leaderless, something that causes huge problems”.

ETYK stresses that in view of the concerns expressed by the entire staff of the new Bank of Cyprus (Good CPB - BOCY) as well as the entire society of Cyprus and due to the negative course of BOCY and the deteriorating situation, it believes that it is imperative the staffing the administrative structure of the bank to make decisions.

It is also noted that at the same time with the appointment of the temporary Board a temporary Executive Director must be appointed too, who will be in place until the new Board of Directors is elected by the general meeting of the shareholders.

It reminded that the organization would like to have a say in the preparation of the new Board of the bank and the appointment of a new executive director, while the procedures must be hastened for the role of today's administrator, Ntinos Christofides to be completed.

ETYK indicated both the President of the Republic and the CB Governor that the organization demands the institution of an employee’s – ETYK member participation in the Board of Bank of Cyprus to be maintained while it stressed the fact that under the new ownership structure of BOCY, ETYK through the provident fund of its members will be one of the largest shareholders of the Group.

Please note that the leadership of ETYK met last week with both President Anastasiades and CB Governor.

During the meeting, as noted, the President and the Governor assured ETYK that its proposals will be promoted rapidly while the services of international firm Alvarez & Marsal in the bank will soon be terminated.
