A total of 151 HFC borrowers fail to resume paying their instalments

A total of 151 borrowers of the Housing Finance Corporation (HFC), with loans of 6 million euros, have not resumed paying their instalments, out of the 3,208 borrowers, with a total of 167 million euros loans, whose instalments were suspended by the Corporation for the period between March 30, 2020 and December 31, 2020, on the basis of a decree issued due to the restrictive measures taken to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

HFC Director General Andreas Georgiou told CNA that the Corporation suspended the instalments of 3,208 borrowers out of the 22,162 who were eligible for this, after they requested so due to economic problems they faced as a result of the pandemic's impact.

He noted that after the resumption of the payment of the instalments at the end of January 2021, 3,049 began to pay them again, while 151 borrowers, with loans amounting to 6 million euros did not resume their payments. Thirty-nine of those have been given loans from the Corporation`s capital funds amounting to 3.3 million euros. Seven borrowers have received loans from state funds and 105 loans from the Central Agency for the Equal Distribution of Burden, which are managed by the Housing Finance Corporation, with the total amount of the loans reaching 2.8 million euros.
