Limo owners under IRD watch

The deadline for the submission of tax data on behalf of all those who have luxury cars costing more than €50 thousand expires in the next few days.

Inland Revenue Department Director, Georgios poufos told the House Audit Committee that the deadline for the luxury cars owners expires in a few days.

“Because of this action of theirs, they have accepted war by individuals. I will submit in writing the names of all those persons”, he said.

On the other hand, General Auditor, Chrystalla Georkatzi once again said that there is a long list of reputable citizens and self-employed who tax evade.

Finance Minister, Vassos Shiarly, who attended the session for about an hour due to increased commitments, stressed the need for a tax settlement of the issue so that those who evade cannot receive subsidies.

“If we collect the uncollected taxes on time, we will cover the fiscal deviation of €150 million”, he added.

The tax evaders that we don’t know of and the tax debtors are two different things”, Mr. Poufos noted.

“The obligations of the tax debtors stand at €420 million. Of them, €115 million are claimed by the IRD with legal measures, while €305 million remain uncollected. This €305 million have been concentrated in the past three years, €200 million in 2011, €70 million in 2010 and €36 million in 2009”, he said.

Mr. Poufos finally stressed the difficulties in collecting uncollected taxes due to the financial crisis.
