DISY MP criticizes govt. on State Budget

22/10/2003 14:27
Few hours before the official opening of the House Finance Committee session on the State Budget 2004, DISY MP and member of the Finance Committee, Prodromos Prodromou has criticized government for a state budget that “lacks inspiration, audacity and organized aims”.

On a written statement, Mr. Prodromou said that the budget does not clarify the government’s intention as to the policy it would adopt to protect the country from the upcoming capital movements and their impacts.

“The political request of a completed state budget has not been satisfied. The only innovative element is that it is supported by the left-wing party AKEL”, the MP noted.

Mr. Prodromou said that the State Budget 2004 does not provide for special support funds after the EU accession, professional reassignment plans or mechanisms for the development of EU programs. “Cyprus will be the only member state that will not have revenues from privatizations”, he concluded.
