18/11/2003 15:29
The government is expected to submit the bill on the heating oil subsidy of £11 million before the House of Representatives on Thursday. The subsidy will be granted to three groups of beneficiaries, a) the households whose income does not exceed £500 per month, b) the pensioners that receive a complementary aid and c) all residents of mountainous regions.

The subsidy will be granted to 18,000 pensioners, 24,000 persons that receive state aids and 80,000 inhabitants of mountainous regions.

Increase of 4% postponed

On the same session, the House Commerce Committee discussed the expenses resulting from the consumption of power from the use of heaters. Deputy Chairman of the House Commerce Committee, M. Kyriakou said that the Electricity Authority of Cyprus had recommended the use of heaters, although their installation is not a cheap solution.

On behalf of EAC, however, General Manager, Costas Ioannou said that the cost paid by the heater users is lower by 50%.

The House Committee and EAC decided not to proceed to an increase of 4% in 2004 to the benefit of all heater users.
