Pourgourides warns DEFA

28/12/2010 14:35
DISY MP, Christos Pourgourides warned the Natural Gas Public Company (DEFA) that the Parliament can reject the governmental guarantees to the Company that DEFA will make a contract with, if the cost of the agreement for the production of electricity is very high.

Significant agreement

This warning was included in a letter sent to the Chairman and members of DEFA today, which demanded transparency for the course of the negotiations in relation to the agreement. Mr. Pourgourides said that this agreement is “one of the most important signed since the establishment of the Republic”.

In the letter, Mr. Pourgourides stressed that the agreement concerning the supply of the natural gas for the production of power will become “binding only if the Parliament approves the governmental guarantees to the Company that DEFA will make a contract with”.

“If the cost of power production will continue to be the highest in Europe after the transfer of natural gas, the Parliament will have no other choice but to reject the governmental guarantees”, he concluded.
