10/12/2020 09:23

A code of principles, conduct as well as transparency for Cypriot MPs is expected to be voted by the House in January 2021.

The issue was discussed during a meeting of the parliamentary committee on institutions. Chairman of the committee Zacharias Zachariou said that the discussion on the code is almost over however they will not be able to vote it in December as each parliamentary group has the right to submit amendments and recommendations to improve it.

We will continue the dialogue so that the text will be completed during this week or within the next ten days and then it will be voted in January, he added.

Zachariou said that "we have to put our own house in order", noting that the Cyprus House has no such code currently, and this is outlined as a negative fact in Greco`s reports. He noted that the parliamentary committee on institutions works together to complete the code before its term in office is over.

Zachariou underlined that the parliament wants to improve itself.
