Ethics parliamentary committee prioritises GRECO related pending bills

26/11/2020 10:24

The parliamentary committee on ethics aims to have the bills pending before it related with the recommendations of a report of the Council of Europe`s Group of States against Corruption (GRECO) tabled for a vote at plenary level before the dissolution of Parliament ahead of the next parliamentary elections, its chairman Zacharias Zachariou said on Wednesday.

Parliamentary elections are held every five years in Cyprus. The last ones took place on May 22, 2016.

Zachariou, who was speaking after a meeting of the committee, said that the matters raised in the most recent GRECO report concern code of conduct for MPs, the declaration of assets, income, liabilities and interests of people holding a public office and regulating lobbying.

The committee, he added, completed the code of conduct discussion which will now be sent to parliamentary political groups so that they can express their position on the code at a meeting set for December 9. The code of conduct will then be tabled for a vote in the plenary, he noted.
