The age limit for a COVID-19 third dose vaccine drops to 60 years in Cyprus while new vulnerable groups of the population will get the booster dose as well.

The Council of Ministers approved on Friday a recommendation by Health Minister, Michalis Hadjipantelas, about the new groups of the population to which priority should be given for vaccination with the booster/3rd dose of the vaccine against COVID-19.

According to a Health Ministry press release, the aim of the effort is to protect the groups of the population of which, based on scientific documentation, immune response decreases following a certain period of time. A total of 29,897 people were vaccinated with the 3rd dose until October 14.

The Council of Ministers decided to give priority to people aged 60 years old and over. Their vaccinations will take place at walk-in vaccination centres or by appointment arranged through the Vaccination Portal. The exact date for the beginning of their vaccination will be announced in the coming days.

As regards the vulnerable groups of the population - people with certain health problems - vaccinations will be carried out at Vaccination Centres operating island-wide, by appointment arranged by phone.

The booster/3d dose will be administered using mRNA (Pfizer/BioNTech και Moderna) vaccines, as long over six months passed since the second doze.
