Authorities announced 152 COVID-19 cases and 114 positive rapid tests on Sunday

A total of 152 COVID-19 cases, confirmed through PCR tests, were announced on Sunday in Cyprus, while 114 antigen rapid tests turned positive.

The total number of cases in Cyprus since the start of the pandemic rose to 10,383.

The Ministry of Health said that 11 of the 152 cases were found to be positive from rapid tests in the previous days and are now confirmed through PCR tests. 3 positive rapid tests were not conformed through PCR.

Authorities said that a total of 7,614 laboratory tests were conducted on Sunday. From those, 3,213 were PCR tests, reveling 141 cases.

In particular, 52 cases were detected after testing 637 samples as part of contact tracing, 41 cases were confirmed from 777 samples of individuals who tested on a private initiative, 15 cases were found among 232 samples at Microbiology Labs, 3 cases were detected from 240 samples from GP referrals.

A program to test employees, exempt from a travel ban to and from Limassol and Paphos Districts, revealed that 13 out of 78 samples in Limassol District, 6 out of 702 in Nicosia District, 5 out of 212 in Paphos District and 1 out of 177 in Larnaca District turned out to be COVID-19 positive.

Moreover, 3 cases were detected among 48 samples from pupils, teachers and school staff, while 2 cases were conformed in immigrant reception centers.

In addition to PCR tests, a total of 4,401 antigen rapid tests were conducted, yielding 114 positive results. 17 were detected in Limassol (of which 14 in a nursing home), 25 in Larnaca, 14 in Famagusta, 8 in Paphos, 49 in Nicosia and one is a healthcare professional.

A total of 119 patients are hospitalized in Cyprus, of which 69 in Famagusta General Hospital (4 in the Advanced Care Unit), 24 in Nicosia General Hospital (15 at the ICU, 2 are not connected to a ventilator), 19 in Limassol General Hospital and 7 at Makario Children’s’ Hospital.
