Authorities announced 153 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday

A total of 153 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Thursday in Cyprus, with the total number of confirmed cases rising up to 121,995. The positivity rate stands at 0.28%.

No deaths were recorded while 60 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, 22 of them in a critical condition. Nine of them are intubated, one is treated in an ICU but is not intubated, and 12 in Increased Care Units. A percentage of 65.08% of those who are hospitalised have not been vaccinated.

The total number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains 559. Ten post-COVID patients who ceased to be contagious continue to be treated in a critical condition due to COVID-19 in ICUs and are intubated.

A total of 54.108 tests were conducted using the PCR method (4,559) and antigen rapid tests (49,549).

Out of the 559 COVID-19 patients who have died 354 are men (63%) and 205 are women (37%). Their median age is 76.2 years old.

The 153 new COVID-19 cases were traced as follows: 26 cases out of 370 samples taken during contact tracing, 6 cases out of 2,443 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Pafos airports, 20 cases out of 1,403 samples tested privately, 5 cases out of 216 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 1 case out of 127 samples taken after GP referrals, 71 cases out of 29,766 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and pharmacies and 24 cases out of 19,783 samples tested using antigen rapid tests, through the Health Ministry`s programme.
