Authorities announced 175 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday

Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Thursday 175 new COVID-19 cases (positivity rate 0.51%), while no deaths were recorded. The number of COVID-19 patients who are treated in hospital is 47, out of whom 19 in a critical condition.

The total number of COVID-19 cases is now 74,174. The number of COVID-19 patients who passed away remains 378. Two hundred fifty four are men (67%) and 124 are women (33%). Their median age is 77 years old.

On Thursday 34,427 tests were carried out using the PCR method (5,874) and antigen rapid tests (28,553).

Out of the 19 patients who are treated in hospital in a critical condition, 10 are intubated, one is treated in an Intensive Treatment Unit but is not intubated and eight in an Increased Care Unit.

The 175 new COVID-19 cases were traced as follows: 19 cases out of 255 samples taken while tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, 8 cases out of 3,423 samples taken by passengers at Larnaca and Pafos airports, 17 cases out of 1,895 samples taken at the private initiative, 4 cases out of 184 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, 9 cases out of 423 samples tested using antigen rapid tests at private clinical labs and pharmacies and 118 cases out of 28,130 samples tested using antigen rapid tests.
