Authorities announced 176 new Covid cases

Cypriot health authorities announced 176 new covid-19 cases on Tuesday, with the daily cases rising to the highest number since January 20.

The Ministry of Health said in a press release that no deaths due to coronavirus were recorded today with total fatalities reimaining at 230.

Total Covid-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic amount to 33,567, while the daily positivity rate rose to 0.63%. A total of 27,762 PCR and rapid tests were carried out today.

Furthermore, a total of 78 patients are being treated in state hospitals of whom 25 in serious condition, the Ministry added.

The 176 new cases were diagnosed following 2,085 PCR tests and 25,677 rapid antigen tests.

According to the Ministry, 53 cases were diagnosed from 237 tests taken in the context of primary contact tracing, 27 cases from 59 tests conducted privately, 8 cases from 421 tests carried out in the General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, two new cases from 208 test taken at the airports, two cases from 690 samples taken for rapid antigen tests taken in private clinical labs, one case from 270 samples from GP referrals and 83 cases in the context of 24,987 rapid tests in the context of the Ministry’s testing programme.

As regards cases by District, Limassol recorded the highest positivity rate with 0.96% with 65 new cases following 6,768 tests, followed by Nicosia with 13 new cases following 9,973 tests (0.13%), Larnaca with 4 new cases after 3,253 (0.12%) and Pafos with a rate of 0.05% as one new case was diagnosed after 1,903 tests. Moreover, no cases emerged in Famagusta following 980 tests.

The Ministry also announced that 78 patients are being treated in hospitals, 25 of whom are in critical condition or they are treated in Advanced Care Units. Eleven patients are intubated, five are receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units without being intubated and 9 are being treated in Advanced Care Units.
