Authorities announced 2 deaths from COVID and 410 new cases

Cyprus on Monday announced the death of 2 people from COVID-19 and 410 new cases, bringing the total of cases on the island to 42,628. The positivity rate stands at 0,95% and 217 people are receiving treatment in state hospitals.

The Health Ministry announced that total deaths have reached 245 and the new cases today were detected from a total of 43,173 tests (rapid and PCR).

The deceased are a female 82 years old and a male 90 years, both with underlying condition who passed away at Famagusta Reference Hospital. So far 245 people lost their lives from COVID-19, 162 are male (66%) and 83 female (34%).  The median age is 79 years.

From the 217 patients in hospitals, 51 are in serious condition or in an Advanced Care Unit. Of them  21 are intubated, 4 are in an ICU and 26 in an ACU.

Today`s cases were detected as follows:

146 from 784 samples in the framework of contact tracing, 12 from 1,449 tests done at airports, 18 from 655 tests done on private initiative, 22 from 335 samples taken at Microbiological Labs of state hospitals, 1 from 122 tests done after a GP referral or testing at public clinics, 11 from 1,285 rapid tests done at private labs or chemists and 200 from 38,542 rapid tests done in the framework of mass testing of population and employees. No case was detected from a sample taken from a passenger from the UK who was in quarantine.
