Authorities announced 2,536 COVID cases on Thursday

Cyprus Health Ministry on Thursday reported 2,536 COVID -19 cases and 226 hospitalizations. The positivity rate stands at 2,37%.

Total deaths remain at 724 whereas the cases have increased to 246,354. Data show that 77.44% of the patients are unvaccinated. Of the 226 patients in hospitals, 76 are in serious condition.

The Ministry said that 17 post-COVID patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in serious condition in an ICU.

Today a total of 106,890 tests were carried out (PCR and rapid).

Of the 724 deaths, 450 are male (62.2%), and 274 female (37.8%) and the median age is 76.2 years.

Health Ministry said that of the 76 patients in serious condition, 36 are intubated, 2 are in an ICU and 38 in ACU.

Today 6,000 tests were PCR and 100,890 rapid and the new cases were detected as follows: 51 from 415 tests carried out in the framework of contact tracing, 51 from 2,573 tests at airport, 307 from 2,810 tests conducted on private initiative, 12 from 177 samples taken at microbiological labs of General Hospitals, 1,319 from 46,302 rapid tests done at private labs and pharmacies, 796 from 54,588 rapid tests done in the framework of free testing by the Ministry of Health.

No cases were detected among 25 samples tested following referrals by GPs and in testing at public clinics.

Also, from the rapid tests carried out in the context of the Ministry’s free testing programme, 48 cases were detected in nursing homes, 115 in primary schools, 45 in high schools, 9 in closed structures, 3 in special schools , 100 in the framework of contact tracing, 28 from the `test to stay` program and 3 in the public sector and municipal authorities.
