Authorities announced 39 COVID-19 cases on Monday

Cyprus’ health authorities announced on Monday afternoon nine additional cases of people found to be COVID-19 positive, after conducting 3,176 laboratory tests. Earlier on Monday, authorities announced thirty confirmed cases, detected among passengers arriving at the island’s airports in the last few days.

The total number of cases announced on Monday rose thus to 39, after 3,522 laboratory tests. Of them, 33 are incoming cases (19 from Mykonos, 10 from the Netherlands, 3 from London and one from Romania), 3 emerged after contact—tracing, one did the test privately after traveling recently and two emerged from the samples tested at the Microbiology Labs.

The total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Cyprus rose to 1,460.
 
From the 9 cases announced on Monday afternoon, three are contacts of relatives of already confirmed cases. One more person with a recent travel record in Argentina did the test privately.

Three additional cases were found among passengers. One of them arrived on August 23 from Romania, is a permanent resident of Cyprus and was without symptoms. Two more people arrived in Larnaca on August 23, onboard a flight from Mykonos and are not related.

The remaining two cases were detected at the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals.
 
According to an announcement by the Ministry of Health, citing the Epidemiological Monitoring Unit, 3 positive cases were found after testing 2,226 samples from passengers, 2 cases were detected after testing 107 samples from Microbiology Labs, 3 cases were discovered among 71 samples taken in the process of contact-tracing and one case was detected after testing 612 samples of people who did the test privately.
 
Finally, no positive cases were found after testing 160 samples from referrals from GPs.

One patient was admitted on Sunday at Famagusta General Hospital, raising thus the number of patients to 2. One more patient remains intubated at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital.
