Authorities announced 4 deaths, 259 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday

Cyprus authorities have announced another four deaths from Covid-19 and 259 new coronavirus cases out of 13,231 tests carried out on Wednesday. At the same time, 197 people are receiving treatment for the disease across the island, 58 of whom in a serious condition.

Total deaths in the Republic have reached 157, 106 or 68% men and 51 or 32% women. The median age of people dying is 80. Total confirmed cases so far are 27,897.

The positivity rate is 1.96%.

According to a Ministry of Health press release the four people who passed away are a man 60 years of age who was being treated at Nicosia General ICU, one man 91 years old who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital and a woman 84 years of age who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, all with underlying health conditions and a man 78 years of age without reported underlying health conditions who died at the Troodos Regional Hospital.

One hundred and ninety-seven Covid-19 patients are in state hospitals across the island, 58 of them in a serious condition; 30 are intubated, 8 are treated in ICUs but without the help of a ventilator while 20 are treated in an increased care unit.

Out of 13,231 laboratory tests carried out on Tuesday, 2,790 PCR and 10,441 antigen rapid tests, 259 people tested positive.

In particular, out of 497 samples taken in the context of contact tracing 72 people tested positive, out of 566 samples from passengers arriving in Larnaca and Pafos airports 3 people tested positive, out of 1,013 tests done privately 31 people were found positive for the disease, out of 354 samples from the Microbiology Labs of the General Hospitals 18 people tested positive.

Additionally, out of 242 samples taken following GP referrals and the screening of special groups of people through public health clinics one person tested positive, one more person tested positive out of samples taken in the context of screening by the Cyprus Basketball and Volleyball federations and out of 10,441 antigen rapid tests carried out 133 people tested positive.

At the same time, no one tested positive out of 108 tests on passengers who had arrived from the UK seven days ago and are under mandatory quarantine.
