Authorities announced 489 new COVID cases on Thursday

Cyprus reported on Thursday 489 new COVID-19 cases out of 74,277 tests, while no deaths were reported. The positivity rate declined to 0.66%. Total tally of the infections since the beginning of the pandemic stood at 131,951.

Meanwhile 110 patients are treated in public hospitals of whom 42 in serious condition. In a press release the Ministry of Health says that 60% of people treated in hospitals are not vaccinated. Also 3 post-COVID patients, who are no longer infectious, continue to be treated in ICUs intubated and in a serious condition.

Total deaths since the beginning of the pandemic remained unchanged at 590, of which 377 or 64% are men and 213 or 36% women with a mean age of 76 years.

Of the 42 patients in a serious condition, 17 are intubated, two are being treated in ICUs off ventilator and 23 are being treated in an ACU.

According to the Ministry, the 489 new COVID-19 cases were detected following 74,277 tests of which 4,308 PCR and 69,969 rapid antigen tests.

88 people tested positive out of 986 samples taken in the context of contact tracing; 6 persons tested positive out of 992 samples taken in the context of screening at the airports; 86 people tested positive from 1,953 tested privately, 11 new cases after 277 tests taken in the General Hospital Microbiological labs, 202 people tested positive out of 43,864 samples tested by antigen rapid test in private labs or pharmacies, 95 people tested positive out of 26,105 samples tested by antigen rapid test through the Ministry`s screening program and 1 from 100 tests done following referrals from GPs and at public clinics.
