Authorities announced 5 deaths from COVID-19 and 288 new cases on Monday

Cyprus' Health Ministry on Monday announced 5 deaths from COVID-19 and 288 new cases. The total number of deaths in the Republic since the start of the pandemic is 153. Moreover 205 patients are getting treatment in hospitals island-wide and 58 are in serious condition.

The new cases were detected from a total of 12,842 tests (PCR and rapid tests). The positivity rate is  2.24%  and the total number of cases in Cyprus is 27,638.

The deceased are a man 77 years old with underlying conditions who was at the ICY of the Nicosia General Hospital, a man 89 years old with underlying conditions who was receiving treatment at the Limassol General Hospital, a 70 year old man who was at the ICU in Nicosia Hospital , an 89 year old man, resident of a care facility who was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital and an 82 year old woman who was hospitalised in Limassol General Hospital.

The total number of deaths is 153, 103 men (67%), and 50 women (33%) and the median age is 80 years.

From the 205 patients, 29 are intubated, 6 are in an ICU and 23 in ACU.

Today’s cases were detected as follows:

52 from 266 samples in the framework of contact tracing, 20 from 1,713 tests at airports, 2 from 112 samples taken from passengers in quarantine from the UK and who are tested the 7th day of their isolation, 27 from 1,177 tests carried out on private initiative, 16 from 388 tests done at the Microbiological labs of General Hospitals island-wide, 1 from 236 GP referrals or tests at public health clinics and 170 from 8,950 rapid tests.
