Authorities announced 51 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday

A total of 51 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Cyprus, after 2,291 laboratory tests, authorities announced on Wednesday. The total number of positive cases in Cyprus rose thus to 2,181.

The cases are still under investigation and more details will be provided once contact tracing is completed, an announcement by the Ministry of Health says.

According to the Ministry, a total of 396 laboratory tests were completed in the process of contact tracing, along with 748 tests from people who tested on their own initiative. Moreover, 635 passengers arriving in Cyprus were tested upon arrival, while Microbiology Labs of General Hospitals concluded 160 tests. Another 44 samples were tested in the framework of a program to test pupils, teachers and school staff, while 308 samples were tested after referrals form GPs.

The Ministry also announced that four cases are being treated in Famagusta General Hospital, designated as reference hospital for Covid-19, while two cases are intubated at the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital. Two patients are receiving treatment in the remaining General Hospitals.
