Authorities announced 843 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday 843 new coronavirus cases (positivity rate 1,59%) bringing the total number of cases since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus to 58,865.

Meanwhile, 291 people are being treated in state hospitals, 71 of whom in a serious condition.

No deaths were reported on Wednesday, thus, their number remains at 295, 195 men (66%), and 100 women (34%). Their median age is 78.

Out of the 71 patients who are in a critical condition, 33 are intubated. In the Famagusta General Hospital there are 74 patients, in the Nicosia General Hospital 86, in the Limassol General Hospital 56 people are being treated, 47 are in the Larnaka General Hospital, 20 in the Pafos General Hospital and 8 in the Makario Hospital in Nicosia.

On Wednesday 53,024 tests were carried out, 4,920 with the PCR method and 48,104 with the antigen rapid test method and 843 new coronavirus cases were detected as follows: 103 from contact tracing, 5 from tests done at the airports, 175 from tests done on private initiative, 8 from samples tested at the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 50 from antigen rapid tests done in private laboratories and pharmacies and 502 from samples tested with the antigen rapid test method. Meanwhile, no cases were found from 222 samples taken after GP referrals.
