Authorities announced the death of one COVID-patient and 164 new cases on Tuesday

Cyprus authorities announced on Tuesday that one more COVID-19 patient lost his life, while 164 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed. The total number of COVID-19 patients who have died is now 176 and of the cases confirmed 29,294.

According to the Health Ministry the patient who lost his life is an 81-year-old man, with underlying medical conditions, who passed away in Famagusta General Hospital.

The Health Ministry also said in its press release that 194 COVID-19 patients are hospitalised, 59 of them in a serious condition. A total of 8,366 PCR tests and antigen rapid tests were carried out.

Out of the 176 patients who have died 117 are men (66%) and 59 are women (34%). Their median age is 80 years old.

Out of the 59 patients whose condition is serious, 32 are intubated, six are treated in Intensive Care Units but are not intubated and 21 in Increased Care Units.

Out of the 8,366 tests carried out on Tuesday, 1,867 were done using the PCR method and 6,499 were antigen rapid tests.

The 164 COVID-19 cases were found as follows: 35 cases out of 243 samples taken in the framework of tracing the contacts of already confirmed cases, one case out of of 260 samples taken from passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports, 29 cases out of 689 samples taken on private initiative, 11 cases out of 424 samples taken by the General Hospitals` Microbiological Labs, and five cases out of 235 samples taken after referrals by Personal Doctors and in the framework of checking special groups through public health centres, while 83 cases were traced out of the 6,499 samples tested by using antigen rapid tests.
