Authorities announced the death of two COVID-19 patients and 121 new confirmed cases

Cyprus Health Ministry announced the death of two COVID-19 patients and 121 new confirmed covonavirus cases (positivity rate 0.48%) on Wednesday, after 25,414 tests were carried out using the PCR method and antigen rapid tests.

The total number of COVID-19 patients who have died now stands at 227 while, the number of confirmed cases is 32,828.

The two patients who died on Wednesday, with COVID-19 being the final cause of their death, are an 80-year-old man and a 79-year-old man. Both of them had underlying health problems, and passed away in Nicosia Hospital Intensive Care Unit.

Out of the 227 patients who have died 153 are men (67%) and 74 are women (33%). Their median age is 79 years old.

According to the press release, 81 patients are currently receiving treatment in hospital, 21 of whom are in a critical condition.

Out of these 21 patients, 13 are intubated, two are receiving treatment in an Intensive Care Unit but are not intubated and six in an Advanced Care Unit.

Out of the 25,414 tests carried out on Wednesday, 1,837 were done using the PCR method and 23,577 using antigen rapid tests.

The 121 COVID-19 cases were traced as follows: 34 out of 261 samples taken in the framework of the process of tracing close contacts of already confirmed cases, 15 out of 865 samples taken at the private initiative, four out of 303 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, one out of 248 cases taken after referrals by personal doctors and in the framework of checks carried out for special groups through public health centres, one ouf of 53 cases taken by individuals hosted  in reception and accommodation centres for immigrants and 66 out of 23,506 samples tested using antigen rapid tests in the framework of the Health Ministry`s programme.
