Authorities announced five more deaths and 162 new Covid-19 infections

Cyprus Health Ministry on Monday announced five new deaths and 162 new COVID-19 cases. The total number of COVID-19 patients who have died is now 175 while the total coronavirus confirmed cases reached 29,130.

A total of 199 patients receive treatment in public hospitals, 55 of whom in critical conditions while 35 are intubated.

According to the Ministry, the new fatalities are three males, 89, 91 and 79 years old all with underlying diseases and two females 92 and 88 years old also with underlying diseases.

Out of 179 patients who have died from Covid, 116 of 66% are male and 59, or 34% are female with an average age of 80 years.

The 162 new cases were diagnosed following 9,384 tests with the positivity rate declining further to 1.73%.  OF the total tests, 1,663 were PCR tests and 7,721 were rapid antigen tests.

According to the Ministry, 43 new cases were diagnosed after 251 contact tracing tests, 6 after 577 samples tested in the airports, 1 after 19 samples taken in the framework of checks repeated on the 7th day since the arrival of individuals who returned from the UK and are isolated in hotels, 18 new cases after 442 tests conducted privately, 13 new cases out of 239 samples taken by the Microbiological labs of General Hospitals and 1 after 135 samples taken in the context of referrals by GPs.

Furthermore, 80 new cases were diagnosed following 7,721 rapid antigen tests, the Ministry added.
