Authorities announced one death and 213 new Covid cases

One patient died from COVID-19 in Cyprus, while a total of 213 ne COVID-19 cases were confirmed out of 74,926 PCR and antigen rapid tests, Cyprus’ Ministry of Health announced on Thursday. The positivity rate stands at 0.28%.

COVID patients treated in hospital dropped to 167, of whom 54 are in critical condition.

The number of patients who have died since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus is now 342 and the number of confirmed cases 70.571.

The person who died was a 63-year-old man, who was treated in the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital.

Out of the 342 people who have lost their lives 226 are men (66%) and 116 are women (34%). Their median age is 77.7 years.

Out of the 74,926 tests that have been conducted 5,079 were PCR tests and 69,847 were antigen rapid tests.

The 260 new cases were detected as follows: 43 cases out of 597 samples taken in the framework of contact tracing, 51 cases out of 1,661 samples taken on private initiative, 12 cases out of 419 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 10 cases after 1,138 rapid antigen tests carried out in private clinical labs and pharmacies, while 97 cases were diagnosed following 68,709 rapid antigen tests in the Ministry’s testing programme among the population.
