Authorities announced one death and 288 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday

Authorities in Cyprus announced on Tuesday the death of a 52 year-old man from Covid-19 who had no known underlying health conditions and another 288 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country last March to 35,297. In the meantime, 79 people are being treated in hospital for the disease, 22 of whom in a serious conditions. The positivity rate across Cyprus was 0.87%.

In particular, according to a press release by the Ministry of Health, the 52 year-old man who passed away was being treated in the Nicosia General Hospital ICU. The total number of deaths in Cyprus due to COVID-19 is now 232, 155 men (67%) and 77 women (33%). The median age of the people who died is 79.

Out of 79 patients in hospital, 22 are in a serious condition, 9 of them are intubated, 3 are treated in an ICU but without the help of a ventilator and 10 are in an ACU.

A total of 32,933 tests, 2,780 by PCR method and 30,153 by antigen rapid test method, were carried on Tuesday, detecting 288 new positive cases (positivity rate 0.87%) and bringing the total number of cases to 35,297, the press release says.

The cases announced were detected as follows: Out of 515 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 61 people tested positive; out of 1,227 samples taken privately, 24 people tested positive; out of 336 samples from the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 13 people tested positive; out of 688 samples tested by antigen rapid tests in private labs, 9 people tested positive; out of 29,465 samples also tested by antigen rapid tests but through the Health Ministry`s programme, 181 people tested positive.

In addition, no one tested positive out of 430 samples of passengers arriving in the Larnaca and Pafos airports and 272 samples tested from GP referrals and the screening of special groups of people through the public health centres.

Geographically, In Nicosia, out of 11,186 tests, 48 people tested positive, with the positivity rate reaching 0.43%, in Limassol out of 7,897 tests, 101 people tested positive with the positivity rate reaching 1.28%, in Larnaca out of 4,062 tests, 9 people tested positive with the positivity rate reaching 0.22%, in Pafos out of 2,320 tests, 5 people tested positive, with the positivity rate reaching 0.22%, and in Famagusta out of 1,265 tests, 7 people tested positive, with the positivity rate reaching 0.55%.
