Authorities announced one death and 303 new coronavirus cases

Authorities in Cyprus announced on Sunday the death of an 89 year-old man from Covid-19 with underlying health conditions and another 303 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country last March to 36,878. In the meantime, 129 people are being treated in hospitals for the disease, 25 of whom in a serious conditions. The positivity rate across Cyprus was 0.65%.

In particular, according to a press release by the Ministry of Health, the 89 year-old man who passed away was being treated in Limassol General Hospital. The total number of deaths in Cyprus due to COVID-19 is now 233, 156 men (67%) and 77 women (33%). The median age of the people who died is 79.

Out of 129 patients in hospitals, 25 are in a serious condition, 13 of them are intubated, one is treated in an ICU but without the help of a ventilator and 11 are in an Advanced Care Unit.

A total of 46,544 tests, 1,353 by PCR method and 45,191 by antigen rapid tests, were carried on Sunday, detecting 303 new positive cases (positivity rate 0.65%) and bringing the total number of cases to 36,878, the press release says.

The cases announced were detected as follows: Out of 627 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 104 people tested positive; out of 333 samples taken privately, 9 people tested positive; out of 166 samples from the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 5 people tested positive; out of 116 samples tested by antigen rapid tests in private labs, 2 people tested positive; out of 45,075 samples also tested by antigen rapid tests but through the Health Ministry`s programme, 183 people tested positive.

In addition, no one tested positive out of 227 samples tested from GP referrals and the screening of special groups of people through the public health centres.

Geographically, in Nicosia, out of 19,080 rapid tests, 48 people tested positive, with the positivity rate reaching 0.25%, in Limassol out of 13,415 tests, 106 people tested positive with the positivity rate reaching 0.79%, in Larnaca out of 6,696 tests, 19 people tested positive with the positivity rate reaching 0.28%, in Pafos out of 3,843 tests, 9 people tested positive, with the positivity rate reaching 0.23%, and in Famagusta out of 2,041 tests, one person tested positive, with the positivity rate reaching 0.05%.
