Authorities announced one death and 53 COVID cases on Thursday

Cyprus` Health Ministry announced on Thursday the death of one person and 53 new COVID cases, brining total of deaths to 362 and total of cases to 72,626. At the same time the Ministry said that 58 patients are in hospitals, 21 of whom in serious condition.

The new cases were detected from a total of 43,163 tests (rapid and PCR) and the positivity rate stands at 0.12%.

The deceased is a 73 year old female who passed away at the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital. From the 362 deaths, 240 are male  (66%) and 122 female (34%) and the median age is 77.5 years. From the 21 persons in serious conditions in hospitals, 12 are intubated , 3 are in the ICU and 6 in the ACU.

Today`s cases were detected as follows:

Eight from 103 samples from the contact tracing process, 3 from 3,300 tests at airports, 11 from 1,468 tests done on private initiative, 3  from 244 tests done at Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, 2  from 456 samples from rapid testing at private labs or pharmacies, 26  from 37,382 rapid tests in the framework of mass testing of the populations. No cases were detected from 103 tests done after GP referrals or tests at public clinics and from 107 tests done at residents of Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias village. The positivity rate from rapid tests is: in Nicosia 0.07%  from 11,335 tests , in Limassol  0.19% from 8,015  tests, in Larnaka and Pafos no cases were detected and in Famagusta 0.05% from 2,137 tests.
