Authorities announced one more death of COVID19 and 220 additional confirmed cases

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday the death of a man aged 84, with underlying conditions, due to COVID19, thus bringing the total number of deaths since the outbreak of the pandemic to 48, 32 men and 16 women with median age 75. The man was being treated at the Famagusta General Hospital.

In addition, the Ministry said that a total of 12,099 tests were carried out on Thursday, while 220 cases were confirmed, 45 of which were positive results of antigen rapid tests done in previous days. It is noted that one antigen positive result was not verified with the PCR method.

Based on the data so far, the total number of confirmed cases in Cyprus reaches 9,673.

In the state hospitals there are 109 patients with COVID-19, 60 in the Famagusta General Hospital (4 in the Increased Care Unit and 56 in the COVID ward), 17 patients are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, and 11 are in the COVID ward, 17 people are treated in the COVID ward of the Limassol General Hospital and at the Makario Hospital in Nicosia there are four patients in the COVID ward.

From the 12,099 laboratory tests carried out on Thursday,  5,935 were done with the PCR method and 175 coronavirus cases were found as follows: out of 707 samples taken through contact tracing 88 cases were found, out of 1,331 tests done on private initiative 54 cases were detected, out of 289 samples taken at the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals there were 7 cases, out of 126 tests done on GP referrals there were 2 cases.

Meanwhile, 13 cases were detected out of 1,552 samples taken in the Limassol district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, 2 cases were found out of  261 samples taken in the Larnaka district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, 2 people tested positive out of 2 tests done in the Famagusta district in the framework of employees` testing who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos and 3 cases were found after 381 samples taken in the Nicosia district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos.

In addition, out of 172 tests carried out in care homes and other structures there were 2 cases, and out of 222 samples taken at schools 2 cases were confirmed.

No cases were found after 133 samples taken in refugee camps, out of 400 tests done in the Pafos district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and  Pafos, out of 244 laboratory tests done in airports and out of 115 tests among residents of Kato Pyrgos Tillirias.

Finally, out of the 12,099 tests carried out on Thursday,  6,164 were done with the antigen rapid method and 103 positive results were found, which need further verification with the PCR method.
