Authorities announced ten coronavirus cases on Monday

Cyprus' Health Ministry announced on Monday ten new coronavirus cases in the government-controlled areas of the Republic, after completing 2,619 tests, bringing their total number to 1,252.

Six cases were detected after testing 1,655 samples of passengers and people repatriated, one out of 61 samples tested in the framework of the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, and two after 324 tests were carried out at the private initiative. One of these two people had travelled abroad recently. Moreover one individual tested positive out of 84 samples taken by the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals. The latter is a woman, with no symptoms, who was tested for COVID-19 at Makario Hospital in Nicosia, in the framework of pre-operative screening.

Four of the passengers were on the same flight which came from Poland on August 9. They were found positive to the virus after random tests were carried out. They are all Polish tourists while three of them are friends. All of them have no symptoms.

The fifth passenger came from Poland also on August 9 but on a different flight and from another city. He has no symptoms and was detected after random tests were carried out to passengers of the flight.

The sixth is from Scotland and came to Cyprus via London on August 8. She has no symptoms and was detected after random tests on the flight`s passengers.

As regards the individuals who tested positive after tests carried out at the private initiative, one of them had travelled recently to Lebanon. He arrived to Cyprus on August 3 and from what he said he did not remain in quarantine as he should. He had no symptoms. The second person was also tested privately and had no symptoms.

Moreover no coronavirus cases were detected out of 134 individuals tested as a result of referrals by personal doctors and the screening of special groups through the Public Health Clinics and 361 tests carried out in the framework of the programme for randomly checking 10,000 individuals.

According to the press release, five COVID-19 patients are treated in Famagusta General Hospital which operates as the COVID-19 Reference Hospital.
