Authorities announced three more deaths and 822 covid cases

Cyprus health authorities announced three new deaths and 822 new Covid-19 infections on Monday, while hospitalisations continue their upward trend.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, Cyprus’ death toll since the beginning of the pandemic reached 294, while total infections have risen to 57,081.

A total of 59,766 tests were carried out today, with the daily positivity rate declining slightly to 1.38%. However, total hospitalisations rose to 284 of which 68 treated in ACUs or ICUs while 30 are intubated.

According to the Ministry the three deaths are two men aged 58 and 82 with no vaccination history and a 64-year old female also with no vaccination history. Of the 294 deaths 66% are male and 34% female.

The 822 new positive cases were diagnosed following 59,766 tests of which 5,125 were PCR tests and 56,461 antigen tests.

A total of 123 cases were diagnosed in the context of 1,321 samples taken as part of the contact tracing programme, 71 new cases emerged following 1,222 tests made privately, 36 new cases emerged after 1,141 rapid antigen tests made in private clinical labs and pharmacies, 19 new cases were diagnosed following 262 tests carried out by General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, 10 new cases were diagnosed after 2,205 tests taken at the airports, while 563 new cases emerged following 53,500 test made in the context of the Ministry’s rapid antigen testing programme.
