Authorities announced two deaths, 260 new Covid cases

Two patients died from COVID-19 in Cyprus on Wednesday, while a total of 260 new COVID-19 cases (positivity rate 0.47%) were confirmed out of 54,816 PCR and antigen rapid tests, the Ministry of Health said in press release.

COVID patients treated in hospital dropped to 173, of whom 56 are in critical condition.

The number of patients who have died since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus is now 341 and the number of confirmed cases 70,358.

The two persons who died on Tuesday is an 82-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man. Both were treated in the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital ICU.

Out of the 341 people who have lost their lives 225 are men (66%) and 116 are women (34%). Their median age is 77.8 years, the Ministry added.

Out of the 54,816 that have been conducted 4,550 were PCR tests and 50,266 were using antigen rapid tests.

The 260 new cases were detected as follows: 94 cases out of 579 samples taken in the framework of contact tracing, 51 cases out of 1,694 samples taken on private initiative, 5 cases out of 286 samples taken by the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs, 2 cases out of 1,778 samples taken at the airports, 9 cases after 742 rapid antigen tests carried out in private clinical labs and pharmacies, while 99 cases were diagnosed following 49,524 rapid antigen tests in the Ministry’s testing programme among the population.
