Authorities announced two deaths and 105 new COVID-19 cases

Cyprus Health Ministry announced Monday the death of two patients from COVID-19 and 105 new cases. It also announced that 103 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals island wide of whom 34 are in serious condition.

The new cases were detected from a total of 34,739 tests (rapid and PCR) and the positivity rate is 0.30%.

The total number of cases on the island since the outbreak of the pandemic is 31.864 and the total deaths reach 214.  Of them 145 are males (68%) and 69 females (32%). The median age is 79 years.

The two new deaths are an 89-year-old man who was being treated at Limassol Hospital and a 93-year-old man, both with underlying conditions who was treated at Nicosia General Hospital.

From the 34 patients in serious condition, 19 are intubated, 5 are in the ICU and 10 in the ACU.

Today’s cases detected as follows: 18 positives from 218 samples in the contact tracing process, 7 cases from 753 tests done on private initiative, 5 cases from 288 tests done at the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, 7 cases from 501 rapid test in private labs and 68 cases from 31.955 antigen rapid tests in the framework of population testing.

No cases were detected from 804 samples taken as part of the passenger checks at Larnaca and Paphos Airports and from 220 samples from GP referrals or testing at public clinics.
