Authorities announced two deaths and 106 new COVID-19 cases

Cypriot health authorities announced that two people died on Sunday from COVID-19, with the death toll rising to 199 since the start of the pandemic.

At the same time, 106 new coronavirus cases were reported after 28,364 tests, both PCR and antigen rapid test. The positivity rate stands at 0.37%. Today’s cases bring Cyprus’ tally of COVID-19 cases to 30,876.

Furthermore, 140 people are treated in state hospitals, 50 of them in critical condition. 24 are intubated, 8 are treated in the Intensive Care Unit without being intubated, and 18 are in Advanced Care Units.

An 80 year old man and a 71 year old woman died of COVID-19 in Nicosia General Hospital, both with underlying conditions. In total 133 men (67%) and 65 women (33%) have died of COVID-19, with a median age of 79.5 years.

Of the 28,364 laboratory tests carried out today, 1,067 were made with the PCR method and 27,297 were rapid antigen tests, yielding 106 cases.

According to the Ministry, 25 cases were diagnosed after 284 samples taken in the context of contact tracing, 5 from 401 tests done privately, 4 out of 154 samples from the General Hospitals Microbiology Labs and 1 following 228 samples from GP referrals. Furthermore 71 new cases were diagnosed after 27,297 rapid antigen tests.
