Authorities announced two deaths and 252 PCR-confirmed COVID-19 cases

Cyprus authorities announced on Tuesday the death of two patients with COVID-19, and a total of 252 new cases confirmed through PCR tests. Moreover, antigen rapid tests confirmed another 57 people as positive.

According to a Ministry of Health announcement, a 75 year-old man and a 64 year-old man, both with underlying conditions, died from COVID-19. The two men were hospitalized at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital. The total death toll rose to 45 people, of which 29 men and 16 women.

According to the announcement, a total of 10,959 tests were run on Tuesday, of which 5,424 PCR tests yielding 188 COVID-19 cases. 116 cases were confirmed from 695 samples in the framework of contact tracing, 41 cases were detected after 1.766 people tested on a private initiative, 9 case were conformed after testing 296 samples at Microbiology Labs, and one case was detected from 243 samples tested after referrals by GPs.

Moreover, 7 cases were detected among 734 employees who tested in Limassol District and who are exempt from a travel ban to and from Limassol and Paphos Districts, 5 cases were confirmed in Paphos District among 265 employees, one case was detected in Larnaca District among 128 employees, and 3 cases were detected in Nicosia District among 702 employees.

Moreover, 2 cases were confirmed after testing 90 samples from pupils, teachers and school staff, while 3 cases were detected after 65 tests on nursing homes.

Additionally, authorities confirmed through PCR tests 64 cases who tested positive in rapid tests during the previous days, bringing the total number of PCR-confirmed cases to 252.

The Health Ministry also says that there were 5,535 rapid tests, yielding 57 positive cases.

The total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic rose to 9,199.

A total of 101 patients are hospitalized in State Health Services Organisation hospitals.
