COVID-19: Weekly positivity rate stands at 0.1%

Cyprus` epidemiological figures are still encouraging and the weekly positivity rate stands at 0.1%, according to the National Surveillance Report that was published on Friday.

The report with data until June 1, shows that a total of 71,399 COVID-19 cases have been diagnosed, of which 361 died due to COVID-19 (case fatality risk: 0.5%). Moreover, in the last 14 days (19 May - 01 June, 2021), 1,154 cases were diagnosed. The 14-day cumulative diagnosis rate is 130 per 100,000 population.

The median age was 31 years and 51.4% were males (n = 593), and 48.6% females (n = 561).
Of these cases, 5.5% (n = 63) were imported and 94.5% (n = 1,091) were locally-acquired.

Data until June 2nd show that 66 people were still hospitalized (currently notified and among those diagnosed till June 1st) and their median age is 65 years of whom 60.6% (n = 40) are males, and 37.9% (n = 25) are from Nicosia district. Forty-one cases (62.1%) still hospitalised have comorbidities.

The 19 patients in ICU, 16 are intubated and the median age of current ICU patients is 67 years and 13 (68.4%) are males. Ten (52.6%) patients currently in ICU have pre-existing conditions.

Over the last 14 days, 84,130 RT PCR and 638,543 rapid antigen tests have been performed (9,474.1 RT PCR and 71,908 rapid antigen tests per 100,000 population).

The Reports shows that until June 1, 71,399 cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been diagnosed and in the last 14 days (19 May - 01 June, 2021), 1,154 cases have been diagnosed.

The 14-day cumulative diagnosis rate of COVID-19 (per 100,000 population)1, a measure which reflects the number of active COVID-19 cases in the population is 130 per 100,000 population.
As regards the characteristics of cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, among 1,154 cases diagnosed since May 19th,  51.4% were males (n = 593), and 48.6% females (n = 561).

By age group, cases included 252 infants, children and adolescents aged 0-19 years-old (21.8%), 793 adults aged 20-59 years (68.7%), 108 persons aged 60 years and older (9.5%) and for one case information is not currently available.

The median age of all cases diagnosed in the last 14 days is 31 years and the median age of adult cases (≥ 18 years) is 35 years.
Moreover, among all cases diagnosed in the last 14 days, 440 (38.1%) were reported in Limassol district, 360 (31.2%) in Nicosia, 148 (12.8%) in Larnaka, 109 (9.5%) in Ammochostos, 52 (4.5%) in Pafos, and 45 (3.9%) were reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.

In the last 14 days (19 May – 01 June, 2021), 30.8% (n = 355) reported no symptoms at diagnosis and 69.2% (n = 799) reported at least one symptom.

The Report shows that in the last 14 days (19 May – 01 June, 2021), 199 cases (17.2%) reported at least one comorbidity.

Among cases diagnosed until 1st June 2021, 361 COVID-19 associated deaths were reported in the Republic of Cyprus until June 2nd, 2021 (Case Fatality Risk - CFR: 0.5%).

The COVID-19 associated mortality is 40.7 per 100,000 population.

Deaths occurred in 240 men (66.5%) and 121 (33.5%) women; the median age of all COVID-19 associated deaths was 79 years (IQR: 70-86 years). By district of residence, deceased cases were 130 (36%) from Limassol, 126 (34.9%) from Nicosia, 63 (17.5%) from Larnaka, 24 (6.7%) from Pafos, 14 (3.9%) from Ammochostos, and four deaths (1.1%) occurred among cases reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.

The median time from date of sampling to death (due to COVID-19) was 13 days.

Among cases diagnosed until 1st June 2021, 431 deaths (all causes) were reported in the Republic of Cyprus until June 2nd, 2021 (CFR: 0.6%).

The mortality (all-causes) for people with COVID-19 is 48.5 per 100,000 population.

Deaths occurred in 288 men (66.8%) and 143 (33.2%) women; the median age of all deaths was 79 years (IQR: 70-86 years). By district of residence, deceased cases were 161 (37.4%) from Limassol, 143 (33.2%) from Nicosia, 75 (17.4%) from Larnaka, 31 (7.2%) from Pafos, 17 (3.9%) from Ammochostos, and four deaths (0.9%) occurred among cases reported either in the British bases or had a residence abroad, or information was not available.

The median time from date of sampling to death (all-causes) was 13 days.

In total, 5.3% (n = 3,777) of people with COVID-19 received hospital care, as of June 2nd, 2021. The median age of hospitalized patients was 62 years (IQR: 50-74 years). Hospitalized cases were mainly males (n = 2,179; 57.7%).

The median age of patients diagnosed till June 1st and still hospitalized, due to COVID-19, as of June 2nd, 2021 (n = 66, including those discharged on that day) is 65 years (IQR: 49-71 years), 60.6% (n = 40) are males, and 37.9% (n = 25) are from Nicosia district. Forty-one cases (62.1%) still hospitalised have comorbidities.

Overall, 381 cases (10.1% of all hospitalized patients) have been admitted to ICU. The median age of patients ever admitted to ICU was 67 years and ICU patients were mainly male (n = 253; 66.4%).

The overall median length of stay in ICU (for all ICU cases) was 14 days.

Until June 2 2021 and based on records which rapidly evolve, of those diagnosed till June 1st, 19 cases are still in ICU (including deaths / discharged on that day). The median age of current ICU patients is 67 (IQR: 60-71) years and 13 (68.4%) are males. Ten (52.6%) patients currently in ICU have pre-existing conditions.

The number of cases currently in ICU is 2.1 per 100,000 population (until June 2nd, 2021, including deaths/discharged on that day).

A total of 365 ICU patients (95.8% of all ICU patients) have been intubated - currently there are 16 patients intubated in ICU (including deaths/discharged/extubated on that day).

By June 1st, 2021, among cases alive, 97% (n = 68,782) of COVID-19 cases have recovered/released from isolation.
