Cyprus announces 2 deaths and 360 new COVID cases Monday

Cyprus Health Ministry announced on Monday 2 deaths and 360 new COVID cases. The total number of deaths since the pandemic broke out in Cyprus is 254.

Moreover, 185 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals and 49 are in serious condition. Today`s cases were detected from a total of 48,432 tests (rapid and PCR) and the positivity rate stands 0.74%. The total number of cases is 44,991. 

The deceased are a female 75 years old who was not vaccinated and passed away at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital and a female 85 years old who was also not vaccinated and died at the Limassol General Hospital. Both had underlying conditions.

So far 168 (66%) male and 86 female (34%)  lost their lives to COVID-19.

From the 49 patient in serious condition,  19 are intubated, 8 are in an ICU and  22 in an ACU.

Today`s cases were detected as follows:

66 from 666 samples taken in the framework of contact tracing, 9 from 1,770 tests done at airports, 30  from  973 tests done on private initiative, 23 from 452 samples taken at the Microbiological Labs of General Hospitals, 1 from 171 tests done after GP referrals and testing in public clinics, 10 from 791 rapid tests done at private labs and pharmacies and 221 from 43,609 rapid tests done in the framework of mass testing of the population.

Rapid test results indicate that positivity rate in Nicosia stands at 0.39%, in Limassol 1.06%, in Larnaka 0.49%, in Paphos 0.29% and in Famagusta 0.15%. Two cases were detected from rapid tests in nursing homes in Limassol and Paphos, 3 from tests in industrial areas in Limassol and Strovolos, and 3 in testing at schools.
