Cyprus announces one death and 460 new COVID cases Thursday

Cyprus announced one death and 460 new COVID cases on Thursday. At the same time 247 patients are in hospitals and their median age is 58.6 years. The total deaths since the pandemic broke out is 328 and the total number of cases reached 68,442.

Today`s cases were detected from a total of 42,232 tests (rapid and PCR). The positivity rate reached 1.09%.

The deceased is a male 70 year old, with no vaccination record who passed away at the ICU of Nicosia General Hospital. Of the 328 deaths, the 215 are male (66%) and 113 females (34%) and their median age is 78 years.

From the 247 patients in hospitals, the 63 are in serious condition or in an ACU and 30 are intubated, 3 are an ICU and 30 in an ACU.

From the 42,232 tests, 6,432 were done via PCR method and 35,800 were rapid tests and the cases were detected as follows: 71 from 749 samples taken in the framework of contact tracing, 7 from 2,426 tests done at the airports, 128 from 2,897 tests done on private initiative, 6 from 261 tests done at the Microbiological labs of General Hospitals across the island, 26 cases from 1,065 rapid tests done at pharmacies and 222 from 34,735  rapid tests.

No positive case was detected from 99 samples taken following a referral from GPs or testing at the public clinics.

Αs regards the positivity rate from the rapid tests, in Nicosia is  at 0.70% out of 13,234 tests, in Limassol 0.69% from tests, in Larnaka 0.74% from 4,892 tests, in Paphos 0.47% from 3,411 tests and in Famagusta 0.47% from 1,946 tests. Two cases were detected from 449 tests done in nursing homes in Nicosia.
