Cyprus authorities announce another 25 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday

Cyprus’ Ministry of Health has announced 25 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, out of a total of 3,988 tests, bringing the total number of cases recorded since the outbreak of the pandemic in Cyprus to 1,180.

In particular, according to the data from the Epidemiological Monitoring Unit, 13 people tested positive out of 173 samples taken in the context of the tracing contacts of already confirmed cases procedure. Three out of those are from the cluster originating from a person who had travelled to Cyprus from the United States. Although two of them chose to be tested privately and only one followed the tracing procedure they are categorised as such since they had been included in the tracing of contacts procedure list.

Two people tested positive out of 1,278 samples tested on passengers and people repatriating to Cyprus. One of them was a passenger arriving from Thessaloniki, Greece yesterday. The other arrived from Qatar yesterday having been granted a special permit and was tested at the airport.

Two people tested positive out of 981 samples tested on a private initiative.

Three people tested positive out of 303 samples received in Larnaca District, three people tested positive out of 486 samples taken in Nicosia District and one person tested positive out of 43 samples received in Famagusta District and one more person tested positive out of 302 samples taken in Pafos District, all in the context of the random testing programme of 3,000 people.

No one tested positive out of 163 tests from the Microbiology Labs of General Hospitals, 40 tests conducted in Limassol District in the context of the 3,000 people random testing programme, out of 22 tests in the context of the programme for testing 10,000 employees of businesses which resumed operations in the second and third phase of the gradual lifting of restrictions, two samples tested on Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias area and 197 tests on samples from people referred by personal doctors and public health centres in the context of screening special groups.

“On the basis of data so far, the total number of positive cases has reached 1,180,” the Ministry press release says.

Five patients are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital ward and their general state of health is good, it concludes.
