Cyprus authorities announce seven new confirmed coronavirus cases on Sunday

Cyprus authorities announced on Sunday seven new confirmed coronavirus cases, out of 1,176 laboratory tests that have been carried out. This brings the total number of cases to 1,021.

One case concerns a woman working at a hotel in Paphos who was found positive out of 249 tests done in the framework of a testing program for employees who went back to work in the 2nd and 3rd phase of relaxation of measures. The second individual who tested positive is a football player of Doxa football team who came to Cyprus on July 10 from Serbia. The case was detected in the framework of the checks conducted at the football team`s iniviative for its players. Overall 86 tests were carried out at the private initiative, the Health Ministry said in a press release.

The other five positive cases concern immigrants for which tests were carried out before being admitted to "Pournara" reception centre in Kokkinotrimithia. They had arrived to the occupied areas of Cyprus from Syria via Turkey. According to the Health Ministry the five cases were detected from a total of 301 tests carried out after referrals from personal doctors and special groups screeing through the public health centres.

No positive cases were detected from 334 lab tests done for passangers and people who have been repatriated, 85 samples tested in the framework of contact tracing of already confirmed cases, and 121 lab tests carried out by the Generals Hospitals Microbiological Labs.

Meanwhile according to data released on Sunday by the Ministry of Health 845 COVID-19 patients (85.9%) recovered until 9 July 2020, while 26 died. COVID-19 was the underlying cause of death for 19 of them.

Moreover, until 9 July, 2020, 32 patients (3.2%) were treated in Intensive Care Units, while 19,329.5 tests were carried out per 100.000 population.
