Cyprus records five deaths and 509 new Covid 19 cases

Cyprus health authorities announced 5 more deaths and 509 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, while hospitalisations dropped to 263.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, Cyprus’ death toll since the beginning of the pandemic reached 326 while total infections rose to 67,420.

One week since in the new lockdown measures, daily tests rose to the pre – Easter holiday levels with 62,459 tests carried out today and the daily positivity rate dropping to 0.81%, the lowest point in the last 22 days.

Furthermore, total hospitalisations declined to 263, with 65 patients treated in ACUs of ICUs, of whom 26 are intubated.

According to the Ministry, the five new fatalities concern four men 61,74, 81 and 56 year-old, two of whom had received one dose of vaccination and a 64-year old woman who was vaccinated with one dose. Of the 326 fatalities 65% are male and 35% are female, the Ministry said.

The 509 positive cases were diagnosed following 62,459 tests, of which 4,537 were PCR tests and 57,922 rapid antigen tests.

According to the Ministry, 31 cases were diagnosed following 665 samples taken as part of the contact tracing programme, 3 cases emerged after 1,750 samples taken at the airports, 47 new cases were diagnosed following 1,520 tests conducted privately, 7 cases were diagnosed following 244 tests carried out by General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, 2 cases from 358 tests carried out by GPs, 19 cases after 717 rapid antigen tests in private labs and pharmacies while 400 new cases emerged following 57,205 tests carried out as part of the Ministry’s rapid antigen testing programme.
