Cyprus records one death and 167 new Covid - 19 cases

Cyprus health authorities announced one death and 167 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, with total hospitalisations declining to 148 continuing their downward trend.

According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Health, Cyprus’ death toll since the beginning of the pandemic reached 348, while total infections amounted to 71,398.

A total of 45,598 tests were carried out today with the daily positivity rate rising slightly to 0.37%.

According to the Ministry, the new fatality concerns a 67-year old man who was treated in the Nicosia General Hospital’s ICU. Of the 348 deaths, 66% are male and 34% are female with a median age of 77.5 years, the Ministry added.

Total hospitalisations declined to 148 of which 49 are treated in ACUs and ICUs, while 26 patients are intubated in ICUs.

The 160 new cases were diagnosed following 45,598 tests, of which 5,194 were PCR tests and 40,404 rapid antigen tests, the Ministry added.

A total of 24 cases were diagnosed after 257 samples taken as part of the contact tracing programme, 36 new cases emerged following 2,425 tests made privately, 10 cases were diagnosed following 308 tests carried out by General Hospitals Microbiological Labs, 4 cases emerged after 2,096 tests carried out at the airports, 4 new cases were diagnosed following 811 rapid tests carried out by privately Labs and pharmacies, 1 case emerged following 108 tests conducted following GPs referrals while 88 new cases were diagnosed following 39,593 samples taken as part of the Ministry’s rapid antigen testing programme.
