Cyprus records one more death of COVID19 and 254 positive tests

The Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday the death of an 82-year-old man with underlying conditions due to COVID19. The man was being treated at the Limassol General Hospital.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the total number of people who died of COVID19 rises to 47, 31 men (66%) and 16 women (34%), with 75 being their average age. At the state hospitals there are 107 patients receiving treatment.
 
In addition, the Ministry announces that 11,986 tests were carried out on Wednesday, from which 254 positive results were recorded, 46 of which concern PCR test verifications of positive results done in the previous days with the antigen rapid-testing method. It is noted that two positive results were not verified with the PCR test.

Based on the data so far, the total number of coronavirus cases in Cyprus reaches 9,453.

From the 11,986 laboratory tests carried out on Wednesday  6,431 were done with the PCR method and 208 cases were found as follows: Out of 688 samples taken after contact tracing there were 53 cases, out of 2,250 samples taken on private initiative 77 cases were found, out of 447 tests carried out by the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals 17 cases were detected, out of 249 tests done on GP referrals there were 3 cases, while 12 people tested positive out of 254 tests carried out in the  Limassol district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos, one person tested positive out of 126 tests done in the Pafos district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and  Pafos, 2 cases were detected out of 584 tests done in the Larnaka district in the framework of employees testing who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos and 6 people tested positive after 1,158 samples taken in the Nicosia district among employees who are allowed to commute to and from the districts of Limassol and Pafos.

Moreover, 35 positive results were detected out of 109 samples taken in the framework of testing in care homes and other structures and 2 cases out of 202 tests carried out at the airports.

No cases were found out of 174 tests done in schools, out of 49 tests done in refugee camps, out of 50 samples taken among residents of  Kato Pyrgos Tillirias, and out of 91 tests carried out in the Famagusta district among employees who are allowed to commute from and to the districts of Limassol and Pafos.

From the 11,986 tests carried out on Wednesday, 5,555 were done with the antigen rapid test method during which 97 positive results were found.
 
A total of 62 patients are receiving treatment at the Famagusta General Hospital, 3 of whom in the Increased Care Unit and 59 in the  COVID ward, at the Nicosia General Hospital there are 27 patients, 15 of whom in the Intensive Care Unit and 12 in the COVID ward, at the Limassol General Hospital 16 people are receiving treatment in the COVID ward and at the Makario Hospital in Nicosia 2 patients are treated in the COVID ward.
